Pharmacist’s Role in Baby care

This course addresses critical knowledge gaps, including the pharmacist's expanded role beyond medication, and essential advice on infant nutrition, breastfeeding, and formula types.
A key area of focus is the safe and effective management of common infant disorders such as colic, reflux, and fever, with an emphasis on safe over-the-counter product selection and pediatric dosing principles.
It will empower pharmacists to counsel families on preventive care, including the national immunization schedule and general baby skincare.

Workshop Objectives:

  • 1. Discuss the pharmacist's evolving role in providing accessible, non-emergency care and guidance for infants and their families.
  • 2. Provide evidence-based advice on infant nutrition, including support for breastfeeding mothers and guidance on selecting and using various infant formula types.
  • 3. Identify common infant disorders and recommend safe and effective over-the-counter interventions while understanding their limitations.
  • 4. Apply pediatric dosing principles to safely dispense and counsel on infant medications, and demonstrate proper medication administration techniques.
  • 5. Educate parents on the national immunization schedule and counsel on common vaccine side effects.
  • 6. Advise on routine infant skin and personal care, including the management of diaper rash and the recognition of conditions requiring medical referral.
